Geronimo the Giraffe was so sweet and gentle and will let you pet him. The Giraffes are at the walk through portion of the park and there is a station you can feed them Romain Lettuce. They are absolutely docile and so much fun and they know it. Sometimes the animal snorts and blows the feed back into your vehicle. And be prepared to have more feed in your vehicle than outside of the vehicle. DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE to try and feed. Some of them can't help it and want some feed so when they approach it may get a little unnerving. Warning - any of the animals with very large horns can scratch your vehicle. Also they will play tug of war with the container because they are greedy. This way the feed lasts longer and all animals get some feed. Also take some smaller containers from home the size of Chinese restaurant soup containers or Margarine containers because the animals will try and grab the whole container of feed if you offer the feed from the big container that is supplied from the ticket booth. Take into consideration that the animals at the end would like some feed too. We purchased 4 containers of feed which we used up by the time you get to the end of the drive-thru part of the Safari park. The best way to purchase is in advance on-line. When you arrive there are multiple lanes leading to the ticket booth which you purchase from the car. I'm 64 and it was me who instigated the visit to VA Safari Park with my 3 cousins the oldest in her 70's and the youngest age 5. You will not get bored and most likely you will leave with memories to last a lifetime. September 3rd - It is difficult to pick which is a favorite. We ended spending 6 hours there and it was just a fun time for everyone! Note that you will get your fill of animal drool and sneezing so bring a package of wet wipes! And watch out for the buffaloes and long horns as they will attempt to stick their heads into your vehicle! And hold tight to the buckets as some of the bigger animals will just bite down on that and take it out of your hands! Then 4 more buckets and back to the safari drive (you can go as many times as you want). This was a great system! We were the first ones in at 9 AM and the animals were packed in at the entrance! Our first go thru took 2 hours and it was so much fun! Did the Village Walk thru with the animal feedings and they loved that also! We brought our own lunch and had a quiet picnic lunch. The kids would then take a handful of feed and put it in their smaller bucket t feed the animals. We brought 2 big empty 5 quart buckets, took the small provided buckets and poured their buckets into our big ones. Bought 4 buckets and used the tip others mentioned about bringing your won empty buckets.
